St Philomena was a young Christian of the early Church who refused to renounce her faith. Despite threats and imprisonment she remained steadfast and in the end suffered martyrdom.
The statue shows her holding an anchor, the symbol of hope and steadfastness in the faith, and a palm branch, the sign of her martyrdom and her fidelity to Christ. She is a model of courage, purity and unshakeable trust in God, bringing comfort and inspiration even in severe trials.
