Saint Augustine of Hippo (354–430) was a bishop, a Church Father, and one of the most influential thinkers in the Christian tradition. After a long period of inner searching and doubt, he found his way to the faith through God’s grace and was baptized. His conversion profoundly shaped the rest of his life and made him a powerful witness to repentance.

As Bishop of Hippo, Augustine devoted himself with great dedication to pastoral care and the proclamation of the faith. In his numerous writings, he combined spiritual depth with his personal experience of faith. Central themes of his thought are love for God, the significance of divine grace, and the realization that human beings find their true peace only in God.
